About Me
I’m an Associate Professor of Social Work, researcher, and organizational consultant based in Iowa City. My career has spanned directing multi-million dollar program evaluations, leading qualitative and quantitative research, shaping AI ethics, and developing leaders across the social work profession.
What I’ve learned across all of it: Most organizational problems are structural, not interpersonal. Most leaders are reacting to the wrong thing. And the right questions — asked by someone who knows how to listen — change everything.

Q: Who do you work with?
Most consultants validate the problem you already named. I find the problem underneath that one. My background spans clinical social work, academic research, leadership development, and AI ethics — which means I bring an unusually wide lens to human systems. I’m also direct. If your organization has a structural issue driving the dysfunction, I’ll tell you what it is and what to do about it, rather than soften the finding into something easier to hear.
Q: How is your consulting different from other organizational consultants?
I work with nonprofits, social service agencies, academic institutions, government and child welfare organizations, mission-driven organizations navigating change, and AI and technology companies. If your organization is dealing with a people problem, a culture problem, or a leadership problem — and you’re ready to hear the honest answer about what’s driving it — we’re probably a fit.
Q: What does a typical engagement look like?
Most engagements begin with a discovery call, followed by a focused diagnostic phase — interviews, observation, document review — and conclude with a clear findings presentation and action plan. Some clients engage me on a retained basis for ongoing strategic input. Others bring me in for a single intensive project. I don’t do long, open-ended retainers that drift. Every engagement has a clear scope and a clear deliverable.
Q: Do you work remotely or in person?
Both. I’m based in Iowa City and available nationally. Most diagnostic and advisory work happens remotely with excellent results. For training, workshops, and keynotes, I’m available to travel.
Q: How do we get started?
Schedule a discovery call. We’ll talk through what your organization is facing, what you’ve already tried, and whether this is the right fit. If it is, I’ll propose a scope and we move from there. No pressure, no pitch.
Q: How much does it cost to work with you?
Hourly consulting starts at $350/hr. Organizational diagnosis projects start at $5,000. Strategic advisory retainers start at $3,500/month. Training and workshops start at $4,500 for a half-day. Keynote speaking starts at $3,000. Scope and pricing are always discussed during a discovery call before any commitment is made.
